Its a new year with plenty of new fashions coming our way. La Rue Marche also has a fun and sassy contest planned...please join La Rue Marche Rocks on Facebook so you can get started...We want all of our fabulous ladies to be a part of it.

The girls at La Rue Marche want to see you in a cute LRM outfit, out and about. Whether you're at Pier 500 having a drink, strutting the streets of St. Paul/Minneapolis, or enjoying the sites Paris has to offer, we want to see what you have come up with.

What do you have to do? Post a picture of yourself rocking La Rue attire. Make sure to tell us what you are wearing, and what you are doing. We will then add the photo to an album where everyone can vote on their favorite outfit by hitting, "Like". The person with the most votes at the end of the month will win $50 La Rue Bucks! What fashion lover wouldn't love that?!

I am sure all of you feel the same way we do! The three glorious months we expect to have living in Minnesota and Wisconsin must have went on vacation....because we got the shaft this summer.

Hudson rivals that bigger town across the St. Croix.

There's shopping on both sides of the St. Croix River. Stillwater gets the attention, but over the bridge, Hudson,Wis., works diligently to make itself a draw.

Just a 20-minute shot down I-94 from downtown St. Paul, downtown Hudson is smaller than its river rival but offers all the ingredients for an afternoon escape: a scenic river walk, patio dining and boutiques with everything from high-end home furnishings to sensational shoes. No national chains here - the stores are one-of-a-kind and most are women-owned.

Seasons on St. Croix is a great place to soak up a little local culture.The contemporary studio features fine arts from local and regional artists - some of whom work right in the gallery, so you can observe while you browse for everything from paintings and sculpture to such smaller gifts as pottery and jewelry.

If you're in the market for home improvements, two interior design firms showcase their aesthetic with retail stores.Try CocoBello for contemporary flair and Grapevine Interiors for more traditional furnishings. For smaller touches, visit Et Cetera, packed with country- inspired room accessories and dinnerware. Home, Kitchen & Bath (formerly the Futon & Home Shoppe was recently remodeled and offers gourmet foods, kitchen gadgets, wine accessories and handmade soaps in addition to futons and other furnishings.

Hudson's clothing boutiques do a good job of targeting different styles. La Rue Marche rivals Anthropologie with its whimsical fashions and standout shoe selection. Tucked in back is Tamara Schafhauser's studio, where you'll often find the jewelry designer hard at work on her next vintage-inspired gem. Across the street, Lavender Thymes serves as a nice complement with its extensive assortment of designer jeans and trendy tops for women. That's just one half of the airy store - the other side is filled with soaps, gourmet foods, jewelry and other gifts.

If low-rise jeans are not your thing, try Made Ya Look, which understands that moms want to keep up with fashion without looking like teenagers.

Next, round the corner to Locust Street, where Elan provides current apparel for grown-ups - women and men. Be sure to head downstairs to Dilly-Dally in the Alley, filled with cheery gifts and accessories. Speaking of accessories, stop by Lori's Little New York for designer-inspired handbags and budget-friendly scarves and jewelry. Warning: You won't be able to leave this block without treating yourself to Kanoke's handcrafted chocolates or ice cream.

Need a testosterone fix? St.Croix Souvenir has the men covered with wood carved yo-yos, Hudson sweat shirts and retro keepsakes related to every sport imaginable, from baseball to boating.

Your visit isn't complete without a stroll along the river and the recently redeveloped Lakefront Park. Facing the water, you'll find yet another boutique: Bella Luce for clothing, jewelry, handbags and shoes that won't break the bank. It's a good place to browse while waiting (and waiting) for a table on the patio at Pier 500, a local institution - not only for its prime location by the water.The lunch menu includes a crowdpleasing assortment of soups, salads, burgers and pasta.

Of course, you can't go wrong with pizza. Bricks Neapolitan Pizza serves authentic Neapolitan- style fare in a sleek setting.

What do you do when you get restless....when you need a creative kick start....or when you need a little inspiration?
New York is the perfect place for a burst of energy, a creative kick in the pants, and enough excitement to rock any ones world! We were feeling the need to get out of dodge, so we booked our flight and hit the road.

We researched and developed for 3 Glorious Days....here's what we found

ABC Home & Carpet, 888 Broadway. The most incredible selection of Chandeliers, Home and Personal Accessories and just about anything you could imagine housed in a 1897,
10 story building.

ABC can be a little overwhelming....good thing they have to prettiest tapas bar in Manhattan

Start with a Cava Sangria. Then try the Goat Cheese Croquettes, Asparagus with Aioli dipping Sauce and Fig with Sauteed Spinach.

One of the best restaurants in New York is Balthazar...SoHo on the corner of Spring and Crosby. Reservations required, no matter what day it is, the restaurant is always buzzing. Even in my favorite city, you can't help feeling like you're in a beautiful French restaurant in middle of Paris...which wouldn't be bad either!

Day 2 Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It is a 20 minute subway ride from Midtown. Williamsburg is an up and coming neighborhood for young designers and retailers. We found lots of great vintage shops, the best one is owned by Malin Landaeus. She specializes in vintage European boots and shoes in all sizes....8s, 9s, and 10s perfect for the American foot size.

When you need a break from walking stop at Fiore Restaurant...284 Grand Street...it is absolutely darling!
After you walk some more stop at Marlow and Sons for a bite or like us a refreshment on a hot day

Day 3 Shopping in Soho, lunch in Nolita...btw there is no shortage eye candy with all of the Italian men around. After another delicious lunch at Bread 20 Spring Street we jumped in a cab and headed to 5th Avenue.

We walked and window shopped all the way to Bergdorf Goodman just in time to try on some fabulous shoes!

And last but absolutely not least we finished our research and development at Tao...42 E 58th with a great meal and an even better Dirty Martini! After staying out way too late we had to say our sad farewell to the city that I love so much.

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written."

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck..

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.

An Evening in Paris...Bridal Shower

We have Private Parties all of the time in the store, but Saturday evening was the first Bridal Shower hosted at La Rue Marche. It was absolutely incredible...the girls had so much fun shopping, playing games and opening gifts.

The Hostess Ann Carroll had the wine flowing as the girls walked in, the dinner buffet was to die for and her dessert bar was filled with homemade Fleur de Lis cookies and assorted candies...all in pink of course! Everything was perfect, down to the last detail...French music and Perrier, you could swear you were in Paris.

Girl your trip to NYC sounds incredible. I am so glad you enjoyed your dinner at Balthazar. I am sure your outfit was killer...especially if you were wearing the Ruffle Heals ($116) or kept your python flats ($124) on. I know how sore your feet can get tooling around SoHo!
